An Unused Bonus Room, Turned Into the Place Everyone Wants to Be
This Jacksonville Beach bonus room had plenty of potential but no real purpose. Beck & Co transformed it into a relaxed coastal lounge with comfortable seating, a game table, flexible furniture and playful beach-inspired details — creating a space designed for kids, adults and everything in between.
The Challenge: Giving the Room a Purpose
Like many bonus rooms, this space had become an extra room without a clear reason to use it. The goal was to turn it into a comfortable second living space — somewhere kids could hang out, adults could relax, and everyone could gather for games or conversation.
The bright window bay offered a natural place for a small table, while the rest of the room needed to provide as much flexible seating as possible without feeling crowded.
A Playful Coastal Focal Point
Rather than filling every wall with beach-themed decor, one focal wall carries the coastal personality of the room. A nautical life ring surrounded by gold compass points creates a graphic centerpiece behind the sofa, while the coral surfboard brings a second pop of color to the space.
Neutral walls, charcoal upholstery and a striped rug keep the rest of the room relaxed and allow those playful details to stand out without overwhelming the space.
Flexible Seating Without Crowding the Room
The furniture layout makes the most of a relatively compact bonus room. A full sofa anchors the main seating area, while lightweight poufs can be pulled in when extra seating is needed and tucked away when it isn’t.
In the window bay, a café table and two adjustable stools create another place for games, puzzles, homework or a morning cup of coffee. An open-frame coffee table keeps the center of the room visually light and easy to move around.
Designed for Real Life at the Beach
A beach house needs to be comfortable without feeling precious. Durable upholstery, easygoing finishes and practical furniture choices make this a room that can actually be used after a day at the beach.
The goal was a space that feels finished and thoughtfully designed, but still relaxed enough for sandy feet, family time and everyday life.
Bringing It All Together
Beck & Co selected and coordinated the furniture, rug, lighting, accessories and finishing details so the room came together as one complete space rather than a collection of individual purchases.
From the sofa and game table to the pendant and wall decor, each piece was chosen to support how the room would actually be used.
A Room That Finally Gets Used
The biggest transformation wasn’t structural — it was giving an overlooked room a reason to exist. What had been an unused bonus space became a comfortable, flexible lounge where people actually want to spend time.
That’s often what good interior design comes down to: understanding how a room should work, then making it feel as good as it functions.
